Going Around Trump: The Cities, States, Companies, Universities Still Committed to Paris

I created a list of all the organizations and regions in the U.S. that have publicly committed to keep our commitment to the Paris climate accord.
See the latest list on Medium here.
Some highlights as of today:
State%20commitments%20to%20Paris%2C%206.7.17.jpg
– States: 12 committed, plus Puerto Rico, representing 18.1% of U.S. emissions and 36% of U.S. GDP
– Cities: 247, representing 59 million Americans, from 38 states (including 25 state capitals)
– Businesses: Hundreds of companies, including about 34 Fortune 1000 companies, plus some well-known private giants. It’s such a great list of the big guys, I’ll reprint it below…
Universities: 183 schools
Almost all of this information comes from a public statement organized by four tireless groups: Ceres, We Mean Business, WWF, and C2ES. They titled it appropriately, “We Are Still In.”
Many have asked me about this group’s work in relation to efforts like the United States Climate Alliance (started by Governors Brown, Cuomo, and Inslee from CA, NY, and WA) and public statements to the media by (former) Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Well, fear not. In short, these efforts are all being coordinated behind the scenes. We’re all basically on the same page. One of the upsides of Trump so proudly telegraphing that he was going to remove the U.S. from the largest global agreement in human history was that people could get ready. The three Governors made their announcement within hours.
Anyway, I’m not 100% sure if I’ll keep the list on Medium going for long as it mirrors the www.wearestillin.com. But I’ve added some data to it like % of emissions and economic activity and bolding the largest cities and companies. Also, there are definitely companies and regions that have made Paris-equivalent commitments to carbon reductions without officially signing the ‘we are still in’ statement. For now, I wanted to capture the explicity support for Paris, but I may add others. In general, I could use some help keeping it up-to-date, so feel free to send me any announcements you see to [email protected] (but please put US Climate Leaders in the email header).
Good luck to us all as we continue to tackle climate change without our own federal government.
